Our Aims and Objectives

Aim

The aim of the All-Wales Deaf Mental Health and Wellbeing (the Group) is to achieve effective and high-quality mental health and wellbeing services for Deaf individuals in Wales.

Please note: the term ‘Deaf’ refers to all deaf people, including Deaf, deaf, deafened, D/deafblind and hard of hearing people, as well as British Sign Language (BSL) users.

Objectives

The objectives of the Group include:

Service provision

  • Work with the Welsh Government and other public bodies to improve provision of mental health and wellbeing services for Deaf individuals in Wales
  • Advise and support service providers to cater for Deaf individual’s specific language and communication needs when accessing such services 
  • Share examples of good practice and routes through which to push for improved services by service providers

Data

  • Work with health boards and other providers to improve data collection regarding the needs of Deaf communities in Wales 

Collaboration

  • Develop campaigning strategies to raise awareness
  • Share information with various stakeholders
  • Engage with academic and NHS partners on research projects and funding applications
  • Work with partners to develop quality assurance processes to ensure services are of a good standard
